🔹 What These Columns Are Used For
• SS Whelk®-O 1 phases are classic Pirkle-type chiral selectors with (S,S) configurational preference, offering broad enantioselectivity.
• Excellent for pharmaceutical applications, including API and intermediate enantiomeric separations.
• Compatible with normal-phase, polar organic, and reversed-phase solvent systems.
• The 3 µm and 5 µm variants are common for analytical HPLC, while 10 µm is often used in preparative scale or chiral screening.
• Well-matched with Regis RR Whelk® phases in enantiomeric method development programs.
Regis RR Whelk® Columns
• Complementary (R,R) configuration to SS Whelk®• Provides alternate enantioselectivity for difficult separations
• High resolution with stable and reproducible retention
• Suitable for chiral impurity profiling and regulatory analysis

🧠 About RR Whelk® Columns
Complementary selectivity to SS Whelk® columns (R,R instead of S,S chiral selector).
Particularly useful when SS Whelk® shows low resolution often the next choice in chiral method development.
Work well in normal-phase, polar organic, and reversed-phase methods.
Available in both analytical and preparative dimensions.
Commonly paired with SS Whelk® series during screening to broaden enantioselectivity coverage.
Ion Pair Reagents (Q-Series / Q12™)
• Q12™ ion pairing reagent for enhanced retention of ionic analytes
• Improves selectivity in reversed-phase HPLC methods
• Q-Series for anions and S-Series for cations
• Useful for organic acids, bases, and polar pharmaceutical compounds
• Available in laboratory-ready bottle formats for method development
These reagents are pre-mixed 0.5 M solutions that can be diluted to ~0.005 M for ion pairing applications in reversed-phase HPLC.
The longer the alkyl chain (e.g., Q12), the greater the hydrophobic counterion effect and retention of acidic analytes in ion pair chromatography
Here are some Regis Q-Series Ion Pair Reagents (including Q12) with part numbers
🔹 Regis Q-Series Ion Pair Concentrates (for Anions)
1. Q12™ Ion Pair Reagent (Anion Pairing)
Part Numbers:
404021 — 10 mL bottle
404031 — 100 mL bottle
Description:
A 0.5 M solution of 1-dodecyltriethylammonium phosphate ion pairing reagent. Q12™ is widely used to improve retention of acidic analytes in reversed-phase HPLC, offering enhanced selectivity through ion pairing with polar or ionic solutes.
2. Q8 Ion Pair Reagent (Anion Pairing)
Part Numbers:
404028 — 10 mL bottle
404038 — 100 mL bottle
Description:
1-octyltriethylammonium phosphate reagent optimized for moderate retention enhancement of anionic species in RP-HPLC. Often paired with C18 columns to increase selectivity for carboxylic acids and polar analytes.
🧪 How Q12 (and Q-Series) Ion Pairing Reagents Work
Ion pairing enhances retention of charged analytes in reversed-phase HPLC by pairing ionic analytes with a hydrophobic counter-ion (e.g., Q12™).
Longer chain reagents (like Q12) typically produce stronger retention effects, while shorter ones (like Q5) give more moderate retention.
These reagents are frequently used in pharmaceutical analysis, biochemical separations, and method development to improve selectivity and peak shape.
Q12™ Ion Pairing Reagents (Regis Q-Series)
• 1-dodecyltriethylammonium phosphate (Q12™) for strong anion retention
• Also Q8™, Q7™, Q6™, Q5™ for systematic ion pair strength screening
• Enhances retention of ionic analytes in RP-HPLC
